New and Secure Passports?

Does anyone know whether a Canadian passport that was issued prior to 2006 with an expiry date of 2009 is still considered valid?

I have dual nationality and encountered a similar issue with my other passport. I was stuck in an EU country for a week where I lucky managed to acquire my national identity card that permitted my return to the UK. I can now submit that passport application (which was also supposed to expire in 2009).

Has anyone actually been "officially" contacted/informed about the new CDN passports (or will they be permitted to run through to their expiry date)?

I'll find out when I contact the Passport office but I'm really more curious about how everyone found out about it.

I'm sure its still valid.The new passports seem exactly like the old ones. I'd be shocked if your passport wasn't valid! If the date is good, it should be fine.

It is still valid. mine was issued in 2004 and I had no problem on my recent trip to Canada.

Thanks, that's reassuring. I wish there was a human voice at the other end of the line of the Cdn High commission to confirm this though (officially).
I'd hate to get stuck abroad again.
