Thanks!! I actually didn't book a flight home - throuughout November I started getting a huge response from companies and when I went to interviews, the majority didn't care that I was on the YMS visa. I also kept applying to one company in particular - I kept getting rejected but just stayed on it. Anyway, I got the job offer last Thursday and then yesterday 'signed' all the papers - an equal opportunities employer and in the field that I wanted!

My experienmce? If you are on a YMS visa, recruitment agencies are THE WORST help. Of all the interviews I've been on, it was all through my own applications. I've been through hell and back-some companies made me do "math tests" which asked me to calculate area/perimeter and asked physics-based questions.....wtf?! Needless to say I failed - yes my job (media-advertising) deals A LOT with math but it is basic calculating commissions, rating points, cost per thousands, etc. When I got confirmation I didn't get the job at that company, I told thenm exactly what I thought (in a nice way - the reason why I didn't get it was because of my failing math test - wtf?! They said it proved 'logic' but in reality, it doesn't...it proves analytics).

4 months of hell has finally paid off.....and phew!! Along the way I've met sssooooo many people in the same boat - can't even get retail or pub jobs....and it's christmas - busy time of year!

If anyone wants to ask me anything or whatever, send me a pm. I'd be happy to share my story :)

Great to hear that you managed to find work!

I'm new to the forum, but not new to travel - just returned to Canada after 2 years in London, and went through similar struggles finding work and a place to live (even had to lay down a 3 month deposit - nearly 2500 pounds - in lieu of the fact that I couldn't provide any banking history, work references, or UK tenancy references).

It's a tough fight - but worth it for sure. Before coming home, I managed to squeeze in some good travel around Africa and Europe, and made some incredible new friends.

More than happy to lend some advice and share my experiences as well!

Cheers,

-Greg
