New US Immigration Forum!

Post Tue Nov 13, 2007 5:32 pm

Hello all,

Due to the recent high-volume of questions relating to TN Visas, work visas, immigration, citizenship and more for moving to the US, I've created a new subforum for all these topics.

So, PLEASE use it. If you have any questions or discussions relating to US visas, citizenship etc please post them here:
US Immigration - TN Visa, Work Permits, Citizenship etc SubForum

I'll start moving posts currently in the US Forum to this new Immigration specific subforum.

Thanks!

Well, that's pretty much the entire forum! There's hardly any threads in here about just coming to visit the US. For some strange reason, everyone wants to move here :P

Thanks for doing this. It'll make even easier to weed through the unintersting posts!

Reba - I've noticed! But I figure we should try and organize it a little better, so the US forum doesn't exclusively become about immigration :)

Hopefully it'll just help people get the answers they need, easily.

Hi I have a question. My fiance and I have been dating and corresponding for about a year. We are uncertain what the proper and most expedited way would be for me to move there with him. I am a professional and so is he. He is also retired military.

We want to marry but are uncertain if it would be better to marry once I am there (and what forms wait times etc to expect)OR to marry here and then apply to come down there (and what forms, wait times etc).

Once married we do not want to be separated because we have waited so long and love each other very much. What is a marriage anyway if he is there and I am here. This is all so confusing. We hope to be married this December (Xmas wedding)Can anyone PLEASE assist me to know the best course to take. We are both in our 50s. HELP

TN or EB-2

Hello All,

My situation is as follows.
1) My husband and I are both Canadian citizens currently living in the US.
2) He holds a TN visa, and I currently have a TD visa.
3) He holds a Bachelors degree in Computer engineering with 8 years of work experience
4) I hold a Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering and MBA with 8 years of work experience.
5) We both hold professional engineering (P.eng) designations.

I am interested in working in the US. I have been approached by a few employers, but I am a bit worried about my visa situation.

What is my best option?
1) Get a job offer and apply for a TN visa
2) Get a job offer and apply for EB-2
3) Any other options?

Also, my husband’s company applied for H1B for him this year. Will this complicate my situation?

Your advice is appreciated.

Thank you.

I have a question on the L1B visa. Do Canadians need to go through the labor certification process or are they exempt because of NAFTA? Normally people from other countries have to do labor certification for L1B (not L1A)?

I never needed any labour certification for L1B. All I needed was specialized knowledge of the company. I've never heard anything about labour certification for L1B transfers.
