US Resident - do I need to file T1243 etc?

General discussion

US Resident - do I need to file T1243 etc?

In 2008 I severed all ties (apart from non-resident bank account and RRSP) with Canada - I filed my 2008 tax return with the CRA and a 1040NR return with the IRS. This year I'm a full US resident and just filed by 1040 with the IRS. My question is this: Since I disposed of all my Canadian assets in 2008 and had no Canadian income in 2009 do I need to file anything with the CRA? I've read that filing an NR73 is best done as a reaction to a CRA request and filling out the regular CRA forms (but adding T1243 and T1161) just seems redundant given I have no assets.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Too bad we can't all help each other!

Hi;
I'm Karl, never been on a site like this? I wonder what it can do?
How about this, wouldn't it be nice if I could change citizenship w/ someone from another country, since this one just keeps taking away my Veterans pension till it woun't be long till I can't afford medical treatment. Yes they keep slowly taking away my Govt. Issued bill of rights, aka (promise). Anyway I wish I could just trade places!

I've outstayed my welcome and need advice

UK Visas and Immigration

I've outstayed my welcome and need advice

I have been living in this country for 2 years with my girlfriend and only just found out that I can only be here legally for 6 months in the year. I know I have outstayed my welcome and I am going home now because of this, but I am worried that I wont be allowed back into the UK to see my girlfriend.

Can someone please give me some advice on what I should do?

Will I be prosecuted, will I be allowed back in or will I be banned for a certain amount of time? This has been a naieve mistake, not a deliberate thing.

Quick question : crossing frequently.

Canadians in the USA

Quick question : crossing frequently.

Hi there.

First, thanks for the helpful people here. All this stuff is really more complicated than I thought.

I am Canadian and met someone from the US (nothing new here... haha). I originally planned to study in the US (F1 visa I think), but after reading about it, I realized that I wouldn't be able to work.

That was really disappointing for me, not being able to work meant I probably couldn't study there. We'd like to see each other frequently so I thought that maybe I could study in Canada, and with the money I save I could get a passport and visit often.

Since education is so cheap here and so costly in the US (same program in school costs me 5000$CA /year or something like 25 000$ US/year!!), with the money I save I could basically travel there every weekend and still save money. (In reality I would maybe go there 2-3 weekends each month)

Now, just to be sure, wouldn't there be a problem with that? I know as I Canadian I can stay up to 6 month in the US, but would they start asking questions after a while? Or would it be fine since I'm only staying for 2 days and always returning in Canada?

Thanks for reading. This is all new and very confusing for me, so I just want to make sure I plan everything right :P It seems theres always a minor detail that I forget and that ruin everything... don't want that to happen haha.

BENDIGO, VIC, Australia

Hello- I've recently moved to Bendigo Australia and looking for some new people to meet and hang out with. Haven't heard of many Canadians here (aside from the ones here with my partners company) but thought this might be a good place to make some new friends.
Cheers.

A question regarding a TN visa and video editing?

US Visas and Immigration

A question regarding a TN visa and video editing?

I am new to all this and I just found out about this TN visa and I am wondering if I qualify. I just got offer a job in the US as a video editor for a web based production company. I have a college diploma in Media Productions, which included video editing among other media related subjects. I also obtained certificates in both audio and video editing but not from a university or college. I do have experience including shooting/editing a documentary, some music videos, a concert DVD, and a few weddings.

I was looking at a list of occupations that qualify under TN status and I didn't see video editor but I was wondering if I would be accepted under it. If not does anybody know what work visa I would have to apply for?

Thanks
