News of Canadians in Germany

hey, I'm wanting to move to Germany in about 2 years. i was wondering what steps i need to take to be able to work and study there. and i am learning how to speak German at the moment... =)

Firstly I am an Australian, but I'm confident that my question will have the same results as for Canadians. My aim is to stay in Germany for 18 months, whilst my German girlfriend finishes her studies. So here are my questions.

1. Can I apply for a youth working visa from Germany whilst on a schengen visa?

Recently I've been lining up a job in Germany with a fairly large international company. Just hoping I can get some advice about getting a work visa for Germany.
I've been doing some research, and I don't think I qualify for a Youth Mobility Visa, as i (luckily) still qualify. However, it specifies that you *must* have a return flight booked, and *must* have an understanding of the German language... ...
