Preparing for getting a mortgage

My husband and I are looking at moving to the UK in 2014. We're considering buying a house (not in London), but after reading some of the posts on here, it seems that it would be difficult to do. Does anyone have any advice about how we could prepare for this so that when the time comes we will be able to do it more easily? I don't really want to rent for a few ...

In search for answers...

Hello,

I've been looking through most of the Canuck Abroad forum and even though it has answered a few questions, it seems to raise even more questions. From what I gather from everyone's posts is that everyone has a different experience and I'm really looking for some advice for my specific situation.

Basically I'm leaving at the end of October on a one way ticket flight to Leeds. I was originally going to go to ...

income tax and regaining residency

Hello,

I just have two technical questions for those who have already returned home or know people who have.

1) Income tax. I know that we can file them here and we may be eligible for a return. How does one go about doing this? Is the P45 as equivalent to our T4s at home? Also, for those of us who are YMSers, what is our legal status? Are we considered "non-residents" (see link below ...

NHL Games in London

I'm getting ready to move back to London after a quick stopover at home from living in Melbourne. While I was in Melbourne I found a pub that had a bi-weekly Hockey Night In Melbourne. They rebroadcast games from the previous week so we all knew the outcome - it was more for the joy of watching the game with a bunch of other people who actually get it and aren't just skeptically accomodating your ...
