Unversity Exchange under a Tier 5 YMS

Hello, I am a student at a Canadian university, and in January I am doing an exchange to an English university for 5 months. However I am also hoping to work for 4 months after my schooling in England finishes, so I got a Tier 5 Youth Mobility visa for my time in England, because the Tier 4 student visa wouldn't allow me to work for that long after only 5 months of study. Everything ...

Shipping TV abroad - power conversion

Hi,

I know this is a Canadian forum - I am a Brit who has just moved to Toronto, so far so good!

We shipped our furniture over and planned to buy converters for our two TV's.

However we have found out only one can be converted, therefore we have a great TV that can't be used in Canada.

I was wondering if anyone is shipping their furniture to England and worried about encountering the ...

How is Sheffield as a city to live?

Any comparisons with Canadian cities? What is the cost of living like? Would 35K GBP be sufficient for a family of four people (two kids)?

I would greatly appreciate your comments! :D

Getting passport back while processing renewal?

Hi there

Sorry if this has been answered before, I couldn't find anything in a cursory search...

I need a new passport because my old one is full. Does anyone know if, at the London passport office, I can keep or reclaim my old passport, for the 15 days that the new one is being processed? (and I assume bring in the old one for cancellation on collection) I am a frequent traveller and ideally ...

Resume Vs. CV

Interested to know how you have got on with creating a CV to meet the expectations of the UK employers.

Have you spent time in job centres reformatting your resume/covering letter to CV?

I have a feeling this is going to be a tough one for me because I have never been expected to keep track of this sort of information and I have been in this field for 12+ yrs.

My husband used to ...

My situation

Greetings!

I'm saving up to move to the UK sometime early in the new year to spend a couple years living and working with a Tier 5 visa. However, like most people here I have many questions and would appreciate some realistic advice on how to make the most of my time and somewhat limited funds.

- I have worked the past several years as a server and bartender in fine dining. Every place in ...

Poutine?

Hi guys,

As a Montrealer, I am jonesing for poutine. Even a half-assed poutine would be amazing right now, if only anyone in this country sold cheese curds.

I read that a restaurant called FoxTrot offers one, but does anyone know if it's any good? Is it authentic? it's kind of pricey (6.50 GBP), so i'm not that interested in going if it's going to be made with shredded cheese.
