National Insurance Number... must read!

I was really worried when I was coming over here, because I've heard horror stories regarding national insurance numbers. Well I have good news for all your canucks heading over to England.. it took me 2 WEEKS to get mine! I called up the Jobcentre plus number, they sent an application 3 days later. Filled out the application, sent it back, and a week later, I have my number. It's not bad! So don't worry. ...

How much money should I bring with me?

Hello,

I'm a 20 year old student finishing up my diploma and I've been wanting to move to the UK in the future to gain life experience and to live a simpler life. I've been reading the posts here and I see that it's extremely difficult to find work as a foreigner, so that's why my next step is to move from London, Ontario to Calgary and try and find work there to build my ...

Excess Baggage International - reviews?

Hello,

I am moving from Vancouver to London, England. I won't be using full-service movers as I don't have any furniture or electronics to move. However, I do want to ship around 5 large boxes (about 70 lbs each).

Has anyone had any experience using Excess Baggage International (http://www.excess-baggage.com)? They apparently have a door-to-door service within 10 days (using DHL courier) and charge around C$145 per box. I will ...

Regions of England/ British Citizenship by Descent

I'm a student in London, Ontario finishing up my college diploma at the end of April. I've been interested in the UK for a long time and would consider moving there to experience their culture and just to get a different experience. This isn't going to be something that's happening soon (I'm only 20 and would like to spend a few years working and/or finishing my degree I started before college) but I've found myself ...

Lots of questions!

Hi all,
I've been browsing the forums but still need some clarification on a few things. First of all, I will be moving to the UK sometime in the next year. I will be marrying a Brit and I am Canadian (born here to Scottish parents). I obtained my British passport a few years ago so I am free to live and work in the UK.
So...questions :) ...

Any Canadians living or moving to Oxfordshire?

Wondering if anyone has advice about living near Oxford or Henley on Thames, or other areas in Oxfordshire. I understand there are some places to avoid. Hoping to move sometime next year, so doing the research now.
Where are the best places to live as far as safety, friendly community, leisure/sports clubs, good rail connection to London or Oxford... also looking for a good primary school for my 5 year old.
Thanks for any suggestions ...
