Glasgow Meet Up Group

Hi Canadians in Scotland.
I am organizing a meet up group in Glasgow. There is also one in Stirling. If you want to join up take a look:
http://canadian.meetup.com/29/about/
So far it is really slow but I'm putting the word out and hope to build something soon.
Actually it's based on meetup.com which is a very cool website which lists tons of meet up groups with all kinds of ...

Marketing jobs?

Hi. I moved here in June '04 and almost immediately got a five month contract through a friend, although not in my chosen field of marketing. I hold a British passport as my Dad is Scottish. It was great to get work right away and begin to feel settled in my new home. I am now back in the UK after a Christmas visit to Toronto and I'm having a real challenge getting marketing work. ...

Things to do before I go?

I'll be moving to the UK in April on a Working Holidaymaker's visa. My plan is to travel around Europe/UK for about a month and then settle down in ?London? to find a job.

I was wondering if anyone could give me advice on things to get done in Canada before I leave. I've read some of the posts and it seems pretty important to get a letter of introduction from my bank. Anything else? ...

Moving to London as a "foreigner"

Hi,

I live in Ottawa and work as a customer support engineer in the telecom industry. I don't have a British or EU passport. Neither do I have a British ancestor.

According to on-line job databases, the job market in telecom (around London) is not that bad. But I don't know if they are given to "foreigners" from North America. Isn't there any working visa category that benefits commonwealth citizens?

Even if I get a ...

car insurance with Cdn license? Any ideas?

Hi,
I've been in London about a year (year and 3 days) and need to buy a car/get insurance for a new post I'm taking up in Cornwall (any Cdns down in Cornwall!?)

I'm having the darnest time sorting out insurance and the whole license thing and wonder if anyone might have more of a clue.

I understand Canada is a 'designated country' meaning our license is good to use here for a full year ...

Moving to Ireland?

Hi,
I don't see an Irish area in here so I'm going to post UK. I'm currently living in Canada and thinking about a move to Ireland (I know I can apply for a 1 year working visa)- am curious about the job situation and which are the best city/cities to live in. I'm a graphic/web designer/newspaper advertising production person. I don't need to live in a big centre but love culture, art & history. ...

What do you miss?

So my ticket is booked, there's no turning back, I arrive in London on April 2nd and I am so excited. But I was wondering, I know there's been a couple topics along the same lines, but what do you miss about Canada now that you live in London?

Be it, food, specific stores, sayings, attitudes, weather, anything? I'm curious.

I heard there's no Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. Gasp... ...
