My TN is expiring this coming 5/15/12 and I'm planning on renewing it by mail (I-129 form). It is to my understanding that the TN status is up to three years. However, my passport will expire next Feb 5, 2013. In other words, my passport is still valid for one year. Should I renew Canadian passport before submitting my TN renewal? I really need some help. I'm applying for an ancestry visa via online through the typical visa4uk site.
the only problem i've come across, is that I cannot find the option to apply for ancestry.
here's what happens.
- first page asks me for place of residence. that's currently Canada.

Here is some background info to my question:
- I am canadian citizen, currently under TN visa
- my wife is not a Canadian citizen, but a permanent resident (PR) of Canada, currently under TD Visa
- I have read that PR (wife) can meet the requirements of maintaining PR status while living outside of Canada as long as they accompany a Canadian (me)
