IT Contract in US, Canadian Resident not Citizen

Hello,

Please help with this question. I am considering a 6 month IT contract in the US possibly corp-to-corp (using a Canadian company I could set up?)

I am wondering what my options are in terms of visa/work permit.

I can hopefully become a Canadian citizen in about a year so how will my options be different then?

Thanks,

Axel

No ten-year passports until 2013

http://www.ppt.gc.ca/articles/20111110.aspx?lang=eng

Wow, shocker.

So originally they were supposed to be out Q4 2011, then it was "sometime in 2012", now it's Q1 2013.

My submission to them during the consultation was that there should only be ten-year passports, the only reason I can see to keep issuing five-year passports is to keep the union happy. Like it says, it will cost less per year to get a ten-year passport.

I am negotiating for a position with an US company but would like to be maintained on the payroll of the Canadian entity and enter the US on a TN1 and work at the US office. My new employer is ok with the idea in principle if it is doable. From what I have seen on this board a number of people are working on TN1s in the US but paid through a corp ...

Getting US citizenship by staying long time in US?

Is it possible to stay in the US for a certain amount of time that will allow you to lose Canadian citizenship and become american citizenship. I've heard of other nationalities coming to Canada and staying a few years and getting Canadian citizenship, does it work the same way if I got to the US?

TN - 'Management Consultant'

Hello,

I'm on H1B in New York with a job in marketing & PR. I'm thinking about looking for new opportunities with another company. But the visa seems to have seriously restricted my options (the cost and the amount of paper work) so I'm exploring TN visa.

The lawyers I spoke with said marketing & PR falls under 'Marketing Consultant', and they think my six years professional marketing & PR experience with an international firm ...
