NEXUS Interview

Post Tue Aug 18, 2009 11:44 pm

Hi everyone,

I am a Canadian currently living in the US under TD status. I have my NEXUS interview coming up (in Detroit), and I was wondering if anyone could provide a brief overview of what to expect during the actual NEXUS interview. I have found varying descriptions of the interview process from other forums online, ranging from a laid-back, quick interview, to one with more involved questioning.

I just thought I would ask here since I have always received helpful and accurate advice from the people who frequent the Canuck Abroad forums.

Thanks for any insight!

The best answer to this question is not to answer.

The interview is about you. Don't worry, or prepare for it, just be yourself. If you have no inadmissibilities, you will have no problem. Going to the interview knowing what they will ask, will make the interview feel rehearsed. Just relax.

Thanks lawsrlaws. I just felt like I should have been preparing for the interview, but I wasn't sure what to prepare for (other than preparing the required documentation). I will try not to over-think the process!

my friend had her NEXUS interview and she said it was just like clearing customs at the airport. They ask you the same types of questions. She said both CDN and US officers were very nice. As lawsrlaws said, just answer the questions truthfully and dont worry about it.

If you're on TD status, CBP has obviously cleared you to enter the US, and I'm assuming that means they've done some kind of background check on you when you went to apply.

So dont worry about it! It's really not a big deal

Make sure they add your TD status in your NEXUS record and if you renew it (your TD status), make sure it's added in again when you renew it.

Thanks toronto5481 - Sounds like I have nothing to be nervous about. And thanks Steven - I mentioned that I had TD status on my initial online application, but I will bring it up again during the interview so it can be added to my record.

Hi I applied for my NEXUS via goes system and got my Conditional Approval. I am a US citizen and driving 6 hours each way to do this in Detroit as my company is making me.

I assume Conditional Approval means I passed the back ground checks in US and Canada. One thing that puzzles me is on the confirmation letter for me interview it say the below

"Document Required for Interview:
A copy of your Conditional Approval Notification
For Citizenship of UNITED STATES:
Passport
For Admissibility:
Passport

Special Instructions: If you have ever been arrested bring original court documents reflecting disposition of those charges.

"
Is the special instructions standard or is this just me? I got a disorderly charge that was expunged over a decade ago. I have no clue how to get those docs and have passed numerous back ground check since then. I just dont want to drive 12 hours round trip to get hassled as I had a wierd experience crossing from Niagra last month.

Thx
