Hello to all
I am pregnant and due in May 2006. We moved to England in February 2006 as my husband was offered a full time permanent role here through a former boss. My husband is a British citizen AND a Canadian citizen. I obtained a Settlement Visa (Wife) from the High Commission in Ottawa in January 2006.
I registered with a doctor as soon as I arrived here. I have recently been to the hospital which I have been signed up with to have my baby. They tell me that they are potentially seeing me as "an overseas visitor" and that could mean that I may not be covered by the NHS for my medical assistance. The hospital has asked me for proof of the following:
*copy of my passport, including my settlement visa details and all pages that have been stamped.
*As I am currently not working they need (1) details of my husband's employment (wage/salary slip), (2) his national insurance details, (3) a letter from his employer confirming his job title, date of employment, and national insurance contributions to date.
*copy of our marriage certificate
They provided me with a website where further information can be obtained -- thought some of you may be interested in this site...especially those of you that will soon be relocating and those of you that have recently relocated:
www.dh.gov.uk/overseasvisitors
I am sure it will all turn out ok as we have the proper documentation and we do plan to reside here permanently (sold our house back home and will have the bill of sale soon...another piece of proof to show that I am not a "visitor").
I will keep you updated on my progress.
I am not going to stress about this...right? Please tell me I am right...
