Non resdient Canadian having a Baby back In Canada

Post Sun Dec 04, 2011 3:55 am

Hello all ,
My entire family was born in Canada and grew up in Canada and we are currently living in the Middle East as a non resident canadians . We are expecting a new baby early 2012 and We are currently going over our options as to have the baby here in the Middle East or back in Canada. I have a few questions : Does Health Canada cover the cost of having a babdy ( Hospital care etc...). How do I go about getting citizenship for the newborn?
Thanks in advance

1.If from Ontario, OHIP will cover medical expenses from abroad with proof of receipts, medical bills, etc...ONLY in the event you have not abandoned residency in Canada. (Since you have claimed you are a NON resident, this will not apply in your case)

2. Baby is automatically a citizen if you or other parent is Canadian.

You will have to apply for baby's citizenship through service Canada.. Takes approx 6 to 10 months..4 months in rare cases.

Just so we are clear, if you return to canada strictly to have the baby, none of the pre-natal or birth costs will be covered. Of course, the baby's care will be covered instantly.
