Hey everyone.has anyone ever been hiking in Norway? Been to the Fjords? Is it expensive? Im planning a few months up there in the summer next year and wondering if anyone knows some cheap places to stay, or inexpensive near some hiking/outdoor activity? Im gonna pick up a Lonely Planet, but would love to know of some real experiences from people. Anything would be cool. Thanks.

I have family in Norway and was there in 2006. First and foremost.NORWAY isn't cheap, at all. Gas, food, everything, is quite expensive. The only tip that I can give you is that you have to head to Stavanger, if you love hiking you must do Preikestolen, also known as the "pulpit rock" and cherag? (SP) They are fabulous day trips with the most amazing views. Google Preikestolen, the pictures will take your breath away!

I google Preikestolen. It's amazing! If the cost of living in Norway is expensive, does that follow with traveling too?

The landscape of Norway is probably the most beautiful I have ever seen. This trip really captured the essence of the geography as well as Norway's culture. From the hikes to the ferry rides through the fjords, the beauty of Norway was always present. Both of our leaders were great. They were part Mother (“don't forget to hydrate”), part Doctor (bandaging blistered feet), great leaders, but most of all, our friends. I definitely would be more than happy to see them again on another Backroads trip.
