Number for cheap calls back to Canada

Post Mon Dec 08, 2008 5:30 am

Hi guys - first of all want to say I am so not advertising this, and I hope it doesn't break any rules for posting it - please feel free to remove it if it does.

I was passed on this number from a Canadian woman who works for some family of mine, and I've been using it since coming over here so I know it is not some scam or anything.

Anyways - it's a connecting number you call from any BT landline and it gives you 1 pence per minute rates with no connecting charge or anything. Seriously, talk for an hour; pay 60 pence. I have used it to call land lines and mobile phones back in Canada and haven't been told of any difference in price. I haven't looked at the phone bill myself as I am staying with family and don't want to open their mail! But I made a few shorter "test" calls to landlines and mobile phones and asked my family if there were any connecting charges or difference in rates between the calls and they told me no.

Maybe if you are worried just make a few short calls to make sure.

Anyways - you call 0844 7200 000 from a BT landline. Then you follow the prompts.or you can just dial 011 then the area code then the number as soon as the call connects.

So just 0844 7200 000 - then 011 - then area code (with no country code before it) - then number

And voila, cheap calls.

Hope this helps some of you! It sure has made calling home more doable for me!

i think u mean 0844 7200 000 - 00 - country code - number. an example for calling someone in toronto might be

0844 7200 000 - 00 - 1 - 416-789-0123.

there is one extra charge: bt levies a call set-up fee of 6.86p per call on most calls, including those to most domestic, international, mobile and 0844 numbers (but not to 0800). u pay this charge as soon as the 0844 number is connected, even if the person u're calling does not answer. nonetheless, this is a cheap way of keeping in touch and saves on the hassle of buying phone cards (many of which have a much higher connection fee, daily charge or expiry date).

i used to use 0844 200 9595 for 0.5p per minute earlier this year, but i'm not sure if that works any more, since i haven't called canada for a while.

There are many such numbers available from the UK.

Take a look at

http://callchecker.moneysavingexpert.com/

Choose your country, and you'll get a selection of connecting numbers to use, which prices per minute given.

I just call 08442009595

then listen to the lady talking about discount dial.and it being HALF A "P" PER MINUTE.
then enter the number for Canada using 001-area code-number.
easy peasy!

If you have a good computer, internet access, headphones with microphone, and (optional) webcam, all you need is www.skype.com.

I bought $14 of credit, and I get 2.4 cents per minute ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD. I use it here in Canada, I used it when I went on a trip to England... You can't go wrong with that.

I use it to call land-lines all of the time, and it works perfectly. Give Skype a try next time. :D

Skype is a great option. I was able to call Canada from Northern Africa for 2 cents per minute.
Can't go wrong with that. (Granted when the internet connection was acting up it was tricky, but where it is solid, I was in luck!)
