Obtaining a mortgage in Britain

Post Thu Aug 04, 2011 4:11 am

Does anyone have any tips for navigating the British system for getting a mortgage? Despite excellent credit in Canada and sufficient funds for a downpayment there appears to be some barriers in getting a mortgage here (for instance HSBC says you must have been a customer with them for a year in Canada first, not in their small print however....).

Good question! I personally odn't know the ins-and-outs of getting a mortgage in the UK but I imagine you'd have to prove income and all that - which could be difficult if you're just starting out there.

Contact Lloyds - they can help set you up with a mortgage in the UK and they've got a Canadian based office that will let you know what needs to be done.

Try Micheal or Matthew-
