Obtaining a Visa - I'm Cdn - my 6 yo son is dual (US/CDN)

Post Sun Feb 07, 2010 5:06 pm

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with getting a visa based on the fact that my 6 year old has dual citizenship - Canadian and American. His dad and I are separated but not yet divorced. My son's family is all in the states.

I know he can't sponsor me until he reaches 21 years of age.

Just wondering if there's another way.

Thanks! :)

OMG you have no idea how similar my situation is!!! 6 year old son with american dad. his father and i split a long time ago but i would like to move to the US. i figured with my son being american/canadian i could move over without such an issue!! i'm kind of stunned at how difficult it seems to be. my close friend is american and definitely has enough financially to "sponsor" me but we aren't engaged. i have no american family at all aside from my son. the only thing i've seen as even a remote possibility is going to school in the US or getting a degree here, securing a job and getting a TN at the border. someone pleeeaaase tell me there's another way!! lol at this point i'm mentally flippin a coin between living the life of an illegal alien or waiting patiently for my friend to realize that i'm "the one" (which i already know lol) and get on that one knee lol. uggghhh! someone give me good news!!!!!!!!!!!! :doubt:

There is no other way through your kids until they are 21.

and it takes a long time for parental sponsorship for Canada.
Not sure how long it takes for it for the US.

apparently "parents" are not considered a "family/priority" for sponsorships as it is mainly reserved for spouses/kids.

So you can forget that. Better to live where you can live legally without fear, do not let yourself get into trouble with immigration issues. You can still visit the other country as visitors.
