I was born in Germany, but leaved at the age of 1. My parents are NOT german and neither are my grandparents or any member of my family. I was born on a Canadian military base and was wondering how hard it would be to obtain citizenship...i also have a german birth certificate if that helps and am i canadian citizen right now and under the age of 18.

Hi Laura,

Germans, unfortunately, are tough about this sort of thing.

I think you can only get citizenship by birth there if your parents had been living there for 7 years or something (because they aren't citizens).

Have a look here:
http://www.germany-info.org/relaunch/info/consu...linformation.html

It mentioned being born to US personnel after 1999, which obviously doesn't apply to you though..So I think your best bet is to email the embassy and explain your situation!

I think it will depend on how long your parents were in Germany.

Good luck! Laughing

Well, you should check out the German Embassy website for more information, do a google search to find it. Unfortunetely, Germany no longer allows dual citizenship. So that is a problem for you. But why do you want citizenship anyway? I have a residence permit which allows me to work and live in Germany...
