Offer of employment in California- help!

Post Tue Apr 21, 2009 9:20 pm

Hello,

I need help with this one as I am so confused.
I have been offered a position in California in the financial industry.

I have been working in the financial industry for over 12 years.

Where I currently work is how I was able to finagle an even better position with my future employer. They are my clients. The two companies have no affiliation.

I do not have a bachelors degree but I have my accreditation with the Series 6 which is equivalent to the Canadian Securities Course here in Canada.

My future employer's rationale for hiring me is that they don't need to train me as I am familiar with the position. They are extremely willing to sponsor me and petition for me.

What are my options being that I don’t have my degree? Please help.

P.S. I have searched all the posts similar to my scenario but I don't believe any were pretty similar.

Thanks for any advice!!!

The only option that I can see for you is an H-1B, for which you need a bachelor's degree.

unfortunately work visas to the US require some sort of post secondary degree, except for the L1B intracompany transfer, which requires specialized knowledge and specific company experience.

Yeah, you need at least a bachelor's degree for any relevant category such as H-1B. I can't see a TN-1 category that's relevant but even the vaguely relevant ones require at least a bachelor's degree.

He/she may substitute 3 years of work experience for each academic year of a 4-year U.S. degree. Thus if you present 12 years of work experience, you may actually waive the degree requirement. Hence it is possible to obtain an H1B without presenting an actual Bachelor's degree per se. A fact that is perhaps often forgotten but is only valid for H1B Status.
