Olympic hockey on TV in Melbourne??

Hey there,

I'm kicking around Melbourne for the next couple months, and the Olympics are coming up in a couple weeks. Does anybody know if they'll be showing the Canadian hockey games, and if so where?

Good idea! I don't know any, but I'm going to start researching. I'm in Melbourne for the next while and would die to see a Canadian gold medal hockey game or any team Canada game for that matter. Should totally set up something for all Canadians in Melbourne to watch a game! Let me know if you find anything!

I doubt it. I've lived in Australia for 5 years now. I remember 4 years ago when the winter Olympics were in Italy, not only did they not show any hockey games, but they showed no highlights and no scores. I got all of my hockey updates on the internet.

This year I have heard that they are dedicating four channels to Olympic winter game coverage, but my guess is that unless there is an Australian hockey team, we won't hear anything about it here.

Sorry, actually there is an Australian hockey team but I don't imagine we'll be seeing them at the Olympics in any of our lifetimes.

Looks like the James Squire pub in Docklands (where the hockey night in Melbourne events are held) will be showing a game (not sure which one, semis maybe) on Saturday the 27th at 1 PM.

That was word of mouth though, haven't seen that posted anywhere yet so I have no confirmation on that as yet.

Yes, it's official. I was at an event at the James Squire this past Friday evening... every few weeks, a local club "Hockey Night In Melbourne" shows pre-taped NHL games there. On Saturday, Feb 27th, they'll be hosting both Olympic Semi-Final games live - the first one is at 7:00 am, the second is at 1:30 pm.

The Vancouver Olympic Committee has already pre-determined that Canada's semi-final game will be the second one (1:30 pm).

They will also have the Gold Medal Game live on Monday, March 1st at 7:15 am.

They were handing out flyers for it at the event on Friday evening.

The James Squire Pub is showing the first Canadian game today at 11:30 am. I just called down there and they said they would put it on, sound and all.

It's so good to find out that there's somewhere in Melbourne to get a hockey fix during the Olympics!!! I was really hoping to watch the gold medal game... but looks like I'll have to go to work

And speaking of Canuks in Melbs, does anyone know of a place where Canadians can meet others in Melbs? I've been here almost four months and havn't met any... and none of my Aussie friends seem to understand how important Olympic hockey is!
