Hi everyone.

I am currently in the UK on a working holidaymaker visa that is valid until the end of December 2008. I'm getting married to my british boyfriend in July and we've already gotten our Certificate of Approval to marry as they require. My question is what do I do after we're married. I obviously want to switch my visa so that I can stay here and have no restrictions on working etc but i'm not sure what to apply for. Do I apply for settlement? For further leave to remain? Or something else? I can't seem to find any information about switching from one type of visa to another. Any suggestions from anyone would be very helpful.

Thank you!

Amy

I'm in the same situation right now. We're about to send the form to get our certificate of approval. Do you know by any chance how long it roughly takes and if it's difficult to obtain?

I find it very confusing and stressful as well. Can't wait to be done with all this!

We got our certificate of approval within about a month. It wasn't that difficult to get really. The form was straight forward and they didn't ask for any additional information. I have been looking at the FLR(M) form though and I'm getting a bit stressed about that. It's getting the 20 pieces of correspondence that they want. I mean we don't have much that is addressed to both of us together. It's either just addressed to me or just addressed to my fiance. Hopefully they don't give us a hard time about that.

Good luck to you with your applications. Smile

Thanks for the info! That makes me feel better! lol

About the FLR, is it something we really need to get? What we thought of doing is to go to Canada together right after we get married for me to apply for a spouse visa from there. Of course he could only stay with me a couple of weeks due to work but well, better than nothing!
So if I do it that way, do I need the FLR?

All so confusing!

Oh boy! LOL, I really don't know what to tell you. We're doing it from here because it's not practical for my fiance to travel back to Canada with me. He's disabled and flying is pretty much not an option.

I find it all incredibly confusing too. I wish us commonwealth folks had the freedom to come and go here as the EU people do! It would be so much simpler. Smile

Only unmarried/same sex partners need to submit 20 pieces of correspondence. Married couples do not Smile
