One-way ticket into UK

Post Mon Jul 30, 2007 10:54 am

Hello all,

I've bought a one-way ticket into the UK, and I have a WHM visa. I keep hearing from people that the immigration at the airports won't let you enter their country with only a one-way ticket.but if I have the WHM, will I be able to enter the UK?

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Hi Alana,

I went to the Uk 2 years ago with the WHM visa and there were 2 things I had to prove. 1- That I had enough money (3000$) 2- that I had a return ticket

I think what they fear is that you would be going to the Uk with the WHM visa and that you would stay and get settled in the UK. One of the things they have asked me at the airport on my arrival was if I had a return ticket and when I was planning on going back. I had to show it to them with a random date I had set as I didnt really know when I wanted to come back! I ended up staying 2 years and I had to buy another ticket to come back to Canada.

In most websites, they recommend you to buy a return ticket and I believe that they do so for a good reason. To avoid a bad turn of situation. Their immigration officers are not very soft out there.

I think you should put all the chances on your side and maybe consider buying a return ticket instead of waiting to see what they would decide on the spot. We just never know.

Hopefully everything will be fine for you. And good luck for your trip and make the most of it! You will have the time of your life!

Thanks for replying Laydy! I've heard from a couple of other people that they did not need a return ticket (when they went with a WHM), since you can't really book a ticket two years from now. I think I'll take my chances and go with just the Visa. Crossing my fingers!

I'm also wondering about this, now that it's been changed to the YMS, is a return ticket mandatory? Or is showing sufficient funds to buy a ticket, and having a visa if need be, enough?
