Out of Status TN HELP ASAP

So I called the border crossing where I am going to renew my TN visa. They tell me that when it expires I defer to visitors visa. Looking at these websites I see that that is not the right thing to do. I am 3 days out-of-status intending to go to the border today and need to return to work tomorrow. What do I do?

1)If I go to the border I could be denied and then stuck in mexico

2)I could tell the border agent that I left the country (to mexico) for the last 4 days and am coming back now

3) I could call my employer and tell them I need a few days off to sort this out

4) or I could just not go back to work and return to Canada in 30 days when planned anyway.What would I then need to do to re-enter the US? How does the US get notice of the day you left the country?

I found this reply on your website "On the other hand CBP may treat his overstay as a negative factor and take some type of action accordingly". What would be some of the ramifications if I went to the border and plead ignorance?

Any help ASAP would be appreciated.

A CBP officer would tell you that ignorance of the law is no excuse I'd guess.

If you're out of status, they could bar you from re-entering for a period of time of their discretion. If its only 3 days though, I don't think this would be the case.
