overwhelmed

Hi everyone
My husband and I are moving to Oz in 6 weeks and Im feeling a little overwhelmed. I worry that Im going to forget to do something important. My question is for people who have done the move, were you able to find a check list for what you should take care of in Canada before you go. I would just feel better if I had a list I could check off. I have found some for UK migrants that has been helpful but so far nothing for Canadians.
Thank you in advance,
Christy

Depends on how long you're coming here for. Make sure you have your important docs like birth certificates, marriage certificate etc. The things you leave in safety deposit boxes. I can't believe how many times I've had to show stuff like that, especially if you're applying for PR/citizenship. If you aren't covered by Australian medicare, make sure you have travel insurance.

Cancel all unnecessary bills (cable, tele etc.) Go to the post office and complete of "change of address" card, have all your mail directed to a family member. Call all credit card companies (or any mail you can think of that comes to you) and change the address with them directly. Make copies of you passport and important documents and get them notorized and leave them with someone in Canada, just helps if you ever lose your passport etc.
RELAX! LOL It's a big move but you'll be fine if you have a contact back home to tidy any loose ends you forgot about :)Good luck!

Ahh was not as bad as I thought it would be. Lots of fun trying to get a cell phone here for the first few days. It's tuff here with just your passport and Visa.
AlsoWait till you open up a bank account. You have to wait a week or so here before they give you a debit card. Everything is personalized. So if you loose it you will have to wait another week to get a new one. not luike back home. just go into bank and get new one on the spot. Make sure you cancel your Health care back home or they will still charge you. you will get bills. trust me :)

I originally left Canada as a "Non Resident for Tax Purposes" as I went to work in the Middle East and have never gone back except to visit. Check the Revenue Canada site for what applies to you.

Read the topics about food items you can't get here...they are a must to bring with you!
