Paid by US company, living in the Philippines

Post Wed Mar 24, 2010 11:40 am

I am a Canadian citizen in the US on a TN visa, getting paid by a US company.

I will be taking a leave of absence from my job to work as a consultant for another US company, but will be based in the Philippines. The company will secure me a work visa in the Philippines, but pay me in USD.

a. Does this require any special steps on my part?
b. Does it jeopardize my TN status?
c. Since I will not be physically present in the US while I am performing my work, can I simply claim this as self-employment income on a Canadian or US return?
