Paperwork

Post Sat Nov 14, 2009 9:18 am

Hey everyone, looking for info from people who visited the embasy in Canada for their paperwork before heading to Mexico.
Our intention is to stay for 6 months (Nov 2010 to April 2011), but our future is wide open. We may end up staying much longer then that!
Are we best to apply for an FM3 before heading south, or just a tourist card and apply for the FM3 should we decide to stay longer?
We would also like to hear from people who have entered Mexico by a vehicle with a trailer and any issues they may have run into.

I too would like to know about this. My partner and I plan to go down in the spring 2011 with a motor-home and boat. We also plan on staying so I'm looking for info on the paper work for that as well. I was on the Mexican embassy site and understood they no longer issue FM3's is this so? anyone know whats what?
Thanks

Hmm...the Mexican embassy site is confusing. While on this page...

http://embamex.sre.gob.mx/canada_eng/in ... &Itemid=41

it describes the processing for a visa from within Canada, there is a note on the site front page reading:

Starting on August 1st, 2010, Consular Offices of Mexico are not entitled to issue or renew FM-3 and/or FM-2 migratory cards.

I wonder if this down to the changes they made to the visa? It used to be a green passport-like booklet, but last year they switch it to a laminated photo ID card.

Very typical of a Mexican government website to be conflicting. Best thing to do is call them. Otherwise, you'd be doing this on the border when you drive down.
