The requirement for passport to be valid for a certain period applies to the issuance of certain visas, for which Cdns, of course, are exempt.

And there is no requirement to maintain a passport current. It is a travel document. No travel, no need.

The only reference to passports in the Patriot Act is in reference to the need that they should be machine-readable.

Maybe it was in the bill, I'm sure I read that somewhere. Anyway, there was a guy on here who was arrested in Texas for not having his passport on him and he was put in jail until he could produce it, iirc!

I found this a fascinating bit of information as well.

Which also has inaccuracies in it.
