Hello,
I'm wondering if anyone has any insight into this problem.
I am going to be applying for a UK student visa of duration 3+ years shortly, and I believe it will overlap my Canadian passport expiry date. (Passport expires Aug 11 2011, visa start date Aug 1 2008)
Will my visa application go through in the first place? My understanding is that they just need proof that I'm a Canadian citizen and even an expired passport would work.
I've been to the Canadian passport office and they've told me I can't renew my passport to get the extra 2 years duration, because my passport is too new (too much time remaining before expiry). They did say that if I could prove that I was getting a visa that would overlap my expiry date that I could renew it - this would be complicated however because I need to give my passport in to get the visa. So if I get my visa, then renew my passport, I'd likely have to transfer my visa wouldn't I?
This is further complicated by the fact that I want to leave mid-July and therefore don't have much time to wait.
Provided I can get my visa regardless of the expiration date of my passport, would I be better off renewing my passport and transferring the visa once I'm in the UK and have more time?
Any thoughts/recommendations would be appreciated - thanks.
