Passport issued at consulate abroad

Post Mon Jan 14, 2008 10:33 am

Hello everyone, I'm a Canadian with dual citizenship with the USA, currently living in Brazil. I used to always travel on my Canadian passport until the 5-yr validity made it increasingly difficult and I went to using my 10-yr USA passport. I am now in Brazil and my US passport is running out of clean pages, so I thought I would get a new Canadian passport.

Here's my question to anyone who has a passport issued at a consulate: what location is named under issuing authority? Does it say that it was issued in another country?

I ask this because I think it could cause some confusion should I ever get a Brazilian visa in my Canadian passport and I've clearly been there before!

Many thanks!

Hi,

I've got my Canadian passport from a consulate in Moscow, and it says "Moscow" under the issuing authority. Hope that helps.

Hi, I live in Curitiba, Brazil, and my Canadian passport is issued here, and it does present the message "issued in Sao Paulo, Brazil". It's also non-machine readable. Remember to keep your old passport always together with the new one (staple them together) because of the brazilian visa.

you pp. will say the city where it was issued. if there is confusion, you will simply need to explain to the officer. there's no law that says you must renew a passport when it expires.
