Passport Renewal in London

Post Thu Apr 22, 2004 3:16 am

Just got a new Canadian Passport through the High Commission
in London. Took just under three weeks, using Special (24 hour)
Delivery both ways, one long weekend and a phone-call
(from the commission to me, to clarify a question on the
application). Better than the four- to-five weeks that
Canada House routinely warns callers.

Interesting....

Does anybody know how long it takes to get a first time application passport from inside Britain? I'm now applying for my passport but I've been living in Britain since I was a kid and I wondered if anyone else had done this, and if so how long did it take/how much red tape etc was involved etc etc etc....Any feedback would be gratefully received!

I am about to renew my Canadian passport here also. But where can I get proper passport photos in London. Does anyone have some places. I live in North London, in Barnett.

Kind regards

You don't need the standard Canadian passport photo - the kind you get here for UK passports is fine - that's what I used for my passport when I had it renewed - though I did check first.

I have to renew my passport, its out next month. My Visa (indefinite leave to remain) into the Uk is stamped in my old one . Will they send that back or attach it to my new passport? Is the renewal application the same as the application for first time applications?

You will get your old passport back. I believe that there was somewhere on the application that asked if you wanted it. I went in person so that I could make sure everything was done properly and asked them to make sure I got it back. They had no problem with it.

Here is a link of the places that do Canadian passport photos:

alright, here's my sit: my passport expires in apr. i'm going home for xmas, and was planning to get a rush on my passport (i checked their site, and visited an office before i left home, and they assured me that if i paid extra, i could get my passport w/in 24 hrs, no prob). fr. there, i would have to send my new passport off to the brit high commission for them to re-issue my visa onto my new passport.

or

should i go to canada house, and get this all sorted before i go home for xmas? i checked the website, and called them, but no such luck. i guess i'm just a bit worried that i'll be delayed in coming back to the UK in jan b/c of this, esp. b/c xmas is a busy time, offices are closed.totally my fault.argh!

advice? thanks a bunch. :)
