Passports

How long does it take to renew ones passport as I have never needed to before. I heard it can be as little as a few weeks...somehow I doubt it. Are there any ways to speed up the process?

Actually - Technically you can't 'renew' your passport. You do the exact same as applying for a new passport.

I went through this last year Smile Thankfully we have a passport office nearby and I went there, and got the passport within a week or so.

Usually it is supposed to take 10 business days to process (not including mail time), however my mom just applied for her passport and received it about a month later - So it definitely varies.

and canadian passport pictures have a special format. You can't do them in a booth, so you might need to make sure or explain about the proper size a few times to the photographers or you'll have your application returned lie I have.

Yeah - You can find the specifics for the photos on the government website somewhere (not sure the link).

It's a good idea to print it out and bring it with you to the photographer.

Speaking of passports - does anyone know the procedure for what to do with your working holiday visa when you have to renew your passport in the middle of it?

I have my new passport (took about a month, btw - careful on the photo specs they are pretty strict) but my working holiday visa is in my old one and I want to leave the uk for a quick trip.

How do I transfer the working holiday visa into my new passport?

Thanks!
Chris

I'm not sure how it works, but my girlfriend is a Swede studying here in Canada.

She had to get her passport renewed, but her student visa was in her old passport. Basically she just kept the old copy of her passport, and brought it with the new passport the next time she entered the country. Then, the customs officials transferred it over if I recall (I can't remember how though..I think they just wrote something on it and stapled it to the new passport).

Sorry I can't be of more help!

I think my Dad did the same thing with this residence stamp. Just showed his old passport with his stamp and they just gave him a new stamp in his new one.
