Past world champion snowboarder (2003) wants to stay in USA

Post Mon Nov 09, 2009 7:02 pm

Hi,

I'm a past snowboard champion from canada. I won many world major titles during the years 1999-2004. Then I worked with major snowboard movie in 2005. and then I did only 1 international competition a year, getting 8th place in 2006 and 12th in 2007..and 2nd in 2009.
I know now my competition level is not as impressive as it use to be. So I wonder how I could benefit the US in my field of excellence.
I still have opportunities to snowboard for US film productions and to get photos in us based magazines.
I do not have any employer and will not have one. I only use my skills on a snowboard.
I've seen about EB1 and P1 visas. I wonder which would fit my actual position best and if it is, at all, possible to have it this way???

P1/O1 visas cannot be self petitioned. However, green cards under the EB-1a category can be self petitioned.

That being said, you should consult an immigration attorney to determine whether or not you are "extraordinary enough" to have a realistic chance at approval.

Good luck!

You can self-file for EB-1 on I-140. I never cease to be amazed who gets it, I knew a water skiier from New Zealand who got it so don't think you won't.

Seems to me to be entirely arbitrary how they decide this category, I knew someone from The Bahamas who genuinely was a leader in his scientific field (written multiple books) and he was turned down.

Basically I came to the conclusion a long time ago you need lots of glossy magazines with two syllable descriptions of how fantastic you are. So dig out some magazines with your pictures all over them and you stand a chance.

They seem to love sports people and musicians, scientists not so much, God knows why.
Steve.
