Pet Travel Carriers

Post Thu Jul 24, 2008 5:50 am

I'm returning to Canada later in the summer (hoping to catch some sun!) and bringing my beloved dog with me. I thought I'd just see if anyone has a large pet travel crate that they want to sell or know of anywhere to buy them for reasonable prices? My dog is big so it would need to be extra large/giant!

I have a PetCargo 800 that I need to sell. Check the classifieds for some pictures (I think it's still listed there). Otherwise send me a PM.

But I'm in Canada already, I guess that won't help you :(

Thanks for getting back to me about the crate. It's a pity you're in Canada as that's likely the right size! I'll be heading from Dublin to Toronto. My husband is getting quotes from companies that work with airlines so they are going to quote for a crate as well.

Can I ask how the journey was for your dog? Do you have any tips? Mine is a male vizsla and he's neurotic at the best of times so I'm thinking he's not going to be very happy with all of the changes.

Actually, we're on our way to the UK, so we haven't left Canada yet. It can be a complicated process but we're working with a an agency that handles these types of scenarios.

Do you mind telling me what pet transport agency you are using? I looked into the initial cost of taking my cat over and was quoted $1,800 to be confirmed closer to the time she is ready to go after the 6 months wait time. I know pets can only go Air Canada cargo (not regular baggage) to London.

amaryllis,

We're using Ladyhaye (agency) that operates on Zoom Airlines. The cost? £720 (so about $1450) but they have been very helpful so far, in regards to providing the forms you need and will assist you in filling them out (I'd scan a copy and e-mail it, she'd reply saying "this was OK, that was not OK" type of thing). We can also fly into Manchester or London (Manchester in our case as we're going to Scotland). I heard the Air Canada service is incredibly D-I-Y and you're limited to London. If there's anything else you'd like to know, I'd be happy to share.

amaryllis,

I'm off to Scotland in the fall, so have gotten started with travel arrangements for my 2 cats. I'm going to be flying with Air Canada into London, and the critter travel is with animaltravel dot com. My contact there has been extremely helpful, especially in checking that I'd jumped through all the immunization hoops.

Good luck!

Nigel

ps, the price quoted me was similar to yours. sigh.

Followup to my post in August for anyone researching pet travel. I was extremely happy with how everything worked out. My two cats are currently sitting on the couch, enjoying their new home.
