When Leaving toronto to UK, do you think its a good idea to by a stand-by ticket rather than buy a ticket in advance?

Well, it all depends on how flexible you are with your schedule.

If you don't mind waiting around then go for the stand by to save some money.

No - get a regular ticket and NOT a charter flight. Reason - luggage. It is likely you will be bringing a fair bit of luggage with you (over two cases???) and if so, Air Canada and British Airways will be a little easier on you than a charter ( Air Canada allowed me to take FOUR suitcased and two carry ons when I came over!!!! without charge!!!)
