Hi y'all! I have been fantasizing for 4 years (since my first trip to Mexico) about moving to Mexico to live. I've been held back by student debt. In Sept. 2010 all my debt will be paid off and I plan to take the money I've saved and head down to Mexico to try to make a go of it. I'm not sure yet where exactly I want to live but I'm going to take a couple trips before I move to decide where.
I've searched the web endlessly for ideas on how to get a job and it seems the consensus is that it is virtually impossible unless you want to open a business (I have NO entrepreneur skills) or teach English. I have worked in the Social Service field here in Canada for 8 years with developmentally disabled individuals and have a ton of experience with that however I doubt that will get me a job down there.
I don't fluently know Spanish yet..I am working on it. I hope to polish my Spanish speaking as I've lived there for awhile.
I've met a few people who have just went on a whim and worked at restaurants and hotels owned by Canadians or Americans who want native English speakers. In my thinking they would want to hire people who's native language is English. I know when I go on vacation I usually seek out the English employees when I have a problem. And most vacationers don't know Spanish at all!
Am I foolish to believe I can go and find a job and create a life for myself? I have enough money saved for a few months of job hunting.
