Hi Sammiel

We moved to Adelaide from the UK over a year ago, having almost moved to Medicine Hat in Alberta (both moves jobs related). I adore it here, it is a cheaper and smaller city than either Sydney or Melbourne but everything is very easy to get to and do. The Adelaide hills are simply stunning and the coast is great. We do get interesting weather that goes on 3-day cycles. So if you get a couple of stinking hot days in the summer it's always followed by a cool change, similarly the winter has alot of very nice days, though overall is cold. Oz is not geared up for cold weather and we do dip to close to freezing point at night for a couple of months and heating/insulation in houses is minimal - no such thing as central heating. The weather in Queensland is more stable with a dry and wet season, beautiful in the winter but humid in the summer. Perth's climate is good and lots of Brits go there, but you are out on a limb as it costs you alot of time and money to reach any of the other Australian cities.

Check out Adelaidebrits website for more information of moving to Oz from the UK.

Hey! I just spent the last 11 months in WA and I loved it. If your man's a brickie, there's heaps of work for him any where. What it really comes down to is a couple things.
1. Are you going to buy a house? If so, don't move to perth. the average price of a home has hit 500 grand. Markets are on a steady rise all around it, especially on the coast. A little town to look into is Houptown, Hopetoun gah. I can't remember how to spell it, but it's definitely not HopeTown. Nonetheless, it's about to go off. A good spot to buy property for sure. BHP(?) just opened up a big site near there, so the town's going gangbusters.

2. Cyclones or cold winters? Take your pick. Up north it's stinking hot, and gets hit with cyclones on a regular basis. It's also drier than. beef jerky in the sahara? lol! I dunno, but it's dry. Down south, pemberton area, albany, esperance, margaret river etc, it's just stunning, but it comes close to 0 degrees come winter sometimes. Not quite cold, but still cold enough to complain about! However, down south actually has dirt, and proper trees, and is one of the most bio diverse areas of the world. Beautiful. When I was driving around, literally, every time I hopped out of the Landy, there was a different type of banksia, or eucalypt. Fantastic!

Ok. If you want to know anything else, ask!

Oh! Fair warning! WA stands for Wait Awhile.

Cheers,

Luke

Sorry. not allowed to put a website address on here and this message gets blocked. Do a search under Britishexpats and it will take you to a better site for Perth and other cities. Also check out the Poms in Perth website if it's still around.
