Please help : traveling to the US while H1B pending??

I will be applying for an H1B very soon using premium processing. I want to travel to the US from Canada in 2 weeks to go look at houses to rent. Someone at the place I will be working says I cannot enter the US while my H1B is pending so I have two choices, come this weekend before they submit for the H1B or wait several weeks for everything to be submitted and come down right before I am to start work and find a place. Does anyone know if these options are true? I mean how am I supposed to do this? A lot of homes for rent have the owners still in them and they are offering it up for rent because they can't sell. I would need to give at least 30 days notice for them to move out of their house.

You can enter US with the H1 pending, as long as you still reside in canada, you will simply be entering as a tourist. Nothing you do can invalidate your H1 application, because , in reality, it is your firm's application.

HRs usually are clueless about how immigration works in general, and even less so for Cdns.
