I have been thinking about working in Britain for the last couple of years and I just got back from my best friends wedding in Scotland and he is moving back in about a year and I was really wanting to try to live/work there. I am a plumber and I will be a journeyman in a few months, so I know what I would be doing for work but I guess my question is should I take a trip back to find a job first? I would probably be staying with my friends parents until I gota place of my own there, so where I would be living would not be a problem. Im not exactly sure where to start.

David, If they class a plumber as a highly-skilled worker, you could probably apply for an HSMP visa (Highly Skilled Migrant). If you have a grandparent, parent or even if you were born the the UK, you could apply for an Ancestry visa or Right of Abode.

Try going to

http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/en/howtoapply/vafs

It's a UK visa site- just make sure you take the time to read to see which scenario applies to you.

Ok, thanks that looks like an option. Is there a difference between a work visa and a work permit? could botaining a HSMP visa allow me to obtain it even before I have found a job? It would just be a hassle trying to find a job from way over here unless a take another special trip to look for work.
