Police Incident...paranoid

Post Tue Nov 01, 2011 8:40 pm

Hi There,

My husband has had so much trouble crossing the border due to a theft 24 years ago, for a camera that he stole for 150.00!! He was so scared that he was going to be going to jail at that age(18), he opted to pay the fine and be done with it!! As a youth (I still think 18 should be youth), he had NO idea he would have a record. Fast forward to present, executive, boarding a flight..they hold him back! He couldn't fly for months!

So now I am paranoid, b/c the police came to my house. I was in a bad way, my Mom and I had an"incident". When the police came they asked me if I wanted to press charges..I said no...they left. My concern is..I remember the cop saying "we have to make a record of this" ...so now I am so afraid that I am not going to the States this week!!( With my MOM!!)
Any feedback would be GREATLY appreciated.!!!

It was correct to stop your husband: he had a record.

You don't from what your've posted. Have you never crossed the border in all these years?

After 24 years, can your husband apply to have that incident taken off the record?

A friend of mine was stopped because he was arrested for a stupid crime, stealing wood from a construction site when he was 16. 10 years later, he crossed the border and they held him back for questioning (but still let him go through).

The other incident with you and your mom I wouldn't think would be an issue. It's not like a crime was committed, nobody was arrested.

I think our poster's husband took care of the problem... "He couldn't fly for months!" -- past tense.

yeah, it seems like he should check out getting it taken off his record and I doubt they'd stop you from travelling
