Hi!

I will be going through the Edmonton International Airport for my TN. If you read my post regarding an expired TN, you will hopefully understand my nervousness about getting through successfully.

I am wondering if anyone who has gone through an airport, particularly the Edmonton one, for their TN ahead of the time they are actually going to be "crossing the border". What I would like to do is apply for the TN at the airport about a week ahead of the time I am scheduled to leave, so that if I run into complications, I will have time to get it all worked out before my scheduled departure from Edmonton. Does anyone know if this is possible?

Thanks in advance for any help!

I got my first TN at EIA several years ago and have renewed there once. They were one of the easiest groups of agents to deal with that I have encountered.

You cannot apply for a TN ahead of time. You can only apply as you are leaving Canada / entering the US. That puts you at risk of missing your flight, since you could be 15 minutes getting a TN or 2 hours (happened to me once) or you could be denied entirely (almost happened to me twice).

Unfortunately them's the rules. Make sure you have at least 2 hours free to wait in their little room before your flight, and make sure you have all your paperwork ready. To avoid two common causes of delays: bring originals not copies, and make sure your job description in your offer letter matches one of the NAFTA classifications *exactly*.
