Possible Diploma Technicality

I graduated from Red River College in 2000, the program at the time was called Advertising Art. I believe as of 2001 or 2002 the program name renamed to Graphic Design. The program remains the same, only the name has changed. I contacted the faculty to see if they could reissue a diploma with the Graphic Design on the diploma as I am seeking to receive a TN visa through my profession. The faculty head informed me that they do not reissue diplomas and that customs should still recognize the Advertising Art as the Graphic Design program and that I shouldn't have a problem. He also said that it's a simple matter of either calling the college to confirm this. Should I worry about this as a possible road block to getting a TN? I'm also trying to reach customs to inquire about this but I can't find a contact number, is there a number I can call?

I would take a copy of a College-issued document that announced the change in the name of the program.

Thanks, I've already sent an email to the college to ask if there's an official letter or document stating the name change. I might be overly cautious about this, but I guess it's better to be ready for those kind of potential problems.

you are not over cautious, you're smart about it. Better to be overly prepared than not enough. Good luck!

Make sure you apply Monday through Friday 8-4pm. That way it looks good on your part and the Officer can call and confirm if he wishes.

I did call the Emerson POE in Manitoba and explained the situation to them. Told them if need be they can call the Program Co-ordinator at RRC to confirm this. The CBG informed me that it would be ok and still be recognized and that I shouldn't have a problem. Proper wording is definitely important that's for sure. Luckily I kept all of my original documentation, knew there was a reason for that. Looks like my father has wisdom after all …lol
