Post graduate diploma

Post Thu Nov 24, 2011 9:20 am

Hi there

I was wondering if anyone has experience with how the port of entry inspectors interpret post graduate certificates from Canada?
I have a BA from a Canadian university in Literature and a one year post graduate certificate (you need a bachelors to have the certificate) from a Canadian Technical Communication program.
Will this be enough, (including all required documentation from my employer, proof of education etc…) to obtain the TN visa under the Technical Writer category on the NAFTA list?
I’m just confused as to how the agents interpret “post secondary diploma/certificate” because I do not have 3 years experience in the field but I do have a bachelors degree.

Thanks

Only your degree can be used to get a TN. It is doubtful that a BLit degree will get you a Tech Writers TN, but that is your only hot.

English Lit and Communication/Journalism degrees are fine for a TN. If it is just a B in Lit, then it may be a little risky. However, if you have some experience in TW, then you should be fine with getting the TN>

Experience will help him get the job offer, but it doesn't count towards TN eligibility.
