Settlement Visa Processing Times

HI all:

I am looking for hope that a settlement visa as a spouse/wife of a British National will not actually take 12 weeks! I somehow misinterpreted the wonderful UKVISA website and thought (absurd now in retrospect) that it would only take 5-10days. I found this out yesterday and i have just today submitted all my documents and done my biometrics. My travel arrangements and move is set for June 08th --- I included a letter as a request for consideration for my application to be expedited on compassionate grounds (i.e. yes i fucked up, I'm an idiot, please have pity on my situation). I doubt it will do anything---but i had to try!

I noticed that people seem to be reporting that they are getting their visas in pretty quick turnaround time, but its not clear if these were settlement visas or not. Any insight or experiences would be greatly appreciated. I would prefer those that might give me hope--however i could probably use a good shot of realism to prepare for the 2000.00 non-refundable plane ticket that i will have to eat up!

Hi LinzLou,

Having faced that the Right of Abode might have been 12 weeks, I hate to say it, but the Settlement visa for Spouse of British National will most likely take 12 weeks. They keep it nice and vague on their site, but from the research that I did, the difference is related to whether or not there is an expiry date. That being said, to give you any glimmer of hope, if you look on the Border Agency website, they have a 'Settlement' section, which only talks about Permanent Residency only. Not sure if that brings hope or not. Most of the people on here are going for Ancestry Visas, or Holiday visas, which only last up to 5 years - as these expire, they are non-settlement.
