Right of Abode - Settlement or Non-settlement?

Hi Everyone! Just curious to know if anyone has seen anything on whether a Right to Abode is considered settlement in the UK? or Non-settlement? I ask because I received word that my application go...

Hi Chubber,

I filled out the application form online, and paid online, and once I was done that, it gave a confirmation number and it gave me instructions on where to send my documents (which was the British Commission in Ottawa).

Had following email sent to me. I send forms out on Mon and received this message today:

Your passport and supporting documents have arrived safely at this office and your application is currently being processed. A decision will be taken based on the documents you have submitted.

Processing of your application starts now and normally takes 5 working days for straightforward non-settlement applications. If your application is not straightforward we will send you an email to let you know that processing may take a little longer. In complex cases we may take up to 15 working days to process your application. Please note that this only refers to non settlement cases. In the case of settlement applications, processing can take many weeks longer.

If your application has been approved, you will receive further notification when the visa has been issued. You should allow a minimum of 3 working days for your documents to be sent to you by Priority Courier and also before tracking your package.

That's what I received too.Now I'm guessing if it is straight forward, they just send it back in 5 days, if that is the waiting time, or maybe they send an email regardless - I know they do for Ancestry visas, but they didn't for my Right of Abode application.

Lynndyhop; Thanks for the info as it really helped. I sent ours out via Priority post on May 12, Receive email saying it had arrived on May 14. Pleasant surprise as all my documents arrived back this morning May 20. All was a success so thanks again.

lynndyhop, any reason you didn't just submit the application for a United Kingdom Passport? It is likely that your father would have had you entitled to citizenship at birth.
