Poutine?

Post Tue Oct 11, 2011 6:10 am

Hi guys,

As a Montrealer, I am jonesing for poutine. Even a half-assed poutine would be amazing right now, if only anyone in this country sold cheese curds.

I read that a restaurant called FoxTrot offers one, but does anyone know if it's any good? Is it authentic? it's kind of pricey (6.50 GBP), so i'm not that interested in going if it's going to be made with shredded cheese.

WELL, the price is steep

Have tried using cottage cheese - just drain the water - oxo gravy granules - not 100% but close

Or do it with a home recipe availabe on-line

Did a google & it came up with Waitrose & Sainburys have curd cheese ... check it out

Keep us informed - you may have followers or the makings of a business venture

Poutine is comfort food, especially away from home

How I would love to start a business featuring a sampling of different countries' drunk foods: poutine, kumpir, kebab, etc. it'll be the drunk food shop open from 11 until 6am every day. And then from 6am to 4pm we'll have the hangover foods. :p

Thanks for your suggestions!! I'll have to try cottage cheese and the brand of curds they have at Waitrose (don't think they're cheddar though) -- who knows, we may spawn a new variation of poutine! I'll try the FoxTrot restaurant at some point too and I'll report back on both points.

We are using real cheese curds at Foxtrot. No shredded cheese. I tried approx. 30 different farms before finding one that would produce curds for me. Totally authentic. Can't wait to hear your feed back.

When I was in London in the Spring, I brought about 10 packets of poutine gravy mix for my brother's girlfriend... we're all die-hards originally from Montreal. Unfortunately the poutine gravy mix packets don't come with the cook from la Belle Province sweating into it, that's the real thing... ha!
