Pregnant and applying for a Defacto visa for Oz

Post Fri Oct 07, 2011 7:08 pm

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone else out there has applied for a Defacto Visa while pregnant with your partners baby?
I was living and studying in Oz from Jan 2010- Mar 2011, during this time I met my Aussie partner whom I moved in with for 7-8 months. In March my student visa ran out and I had to leave Australia which is why I didn't live with him for a full year, after which point I found out I was pregnant with his baby. So, I've since come back to Toronto and he's been in Perth and its been heartbreaking being apart let alone being apart while pregnant.
At any rate, I applied for a defacto visa back in May (under special circumstances as we are expecting a child together in 4 weeks time). So they have now had my application for almost 5 months and I recently did my medical tests but have to postpone the chest x-rays until after baby is born. Has anyone else gone through this and how long did you have to wait to get your visa? I am really hoping that I will have it by Dec. so that we won't have to be apart for much longer, especially with a new little baby. I was also told a 6-9 month processing time. I thought that perhaps given the circumstances they would be processing it in 6 months but who knows now.

Any advice or information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi there
I am from Toronto. Married in August 2010 to a man from New Zeland. Just be happy he is an auzzie I get NO benefits cause he is not a PR yet, boo!
I miss Canada everday too, we are moving to Margaret River, so hopefully I like it better there. I have made no friends here, have no family. I love him so much so its so hard to decide to go home and leave him or stay. He wouldn't move back to Canada with my only visit cause he has a 5 yr old daugther in NZ.
Anyhow. You should hear something soon and if you don't then you should call Australian Immigration to see how they can help you out.
Good Luck!
