Preparing for a TN visa application

Just wondering - we are heading up to Niagara Falls for the weekend but it looks like we won't actually be able to make the attempt to move until the weekend after - if I head to the border on Monday to try to get the TN visa (my start date is March 1) do I just explain that I'm trying to get it ahead of time before actually bringing a bunch of stuff - and will I be allowed to just turn around and go back - AND - would I possibly have problems the following weekend driving through with my family of 3 US passport holders and my (hopefully) TN visa?

Whoo hoo - got my TN visa this morning!

A couple questions about my husband and a few about the job and lots of small talk - all in all about 15 min tops for the paperwork and probably about 10 min each way to walk across the bridge and back.

Now to book the movers!
