I'm a wellsite geologist currently based out of Calgary. With my job, I spend fairly long periods of time out in the middle of nowhere playing playstation (and looking at rocks from time to time)
My issue is that I've recently been invited by a guy to live with him at his ranch near the Canadian border in Washington state while I'm not in the field. My schedule is inconsistent, but is essentially 2 weeks on, with 4 or 5 days off work at a time (along with a 1-2 month period in the spring where I do not work).
I'm wondering if it would be feasible to have this place in Washington as my primary residence while I'm not working in the field? I would be working exclusively in Canada, and likely couldn't apply for American citizenship (at least until same-sex marriage is a possibility in Washington state, I suppose).
I'm curious what I would need to have my primary residence in the US as a Canadian, while working in Canada.
Thanks
