Processing time for EB2 Green Card & travel

Post Thu Aug 14, 2008 1:50 pm

Hello fellow Canadians!

I was wondering if you could all help me with something? I'm going to be applying for an a Green Card in a few months, and I was wondering if anyone has any experience with the current processing time for Canadians filing under EB2?

Also, how does it work if you need to travel while the Green Card processes?

Many thanks!

Processing times will vary depending on which office you're applying thru and who is sponsoring you.

You can check timelines at the USCIS website, over to the top right corner http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis

Thanks for the answer Reba.

I was curious to hear if there are any Canadians on this board who have gone through the EB2 process, and specifically, how long it took for your applications to be processed?

I'll be filing through the California office, and my company processes a couple green cards a year, though I'm the first Canadian, most people are sitting on wait lists waiting for their priority numbers to become available.

THanks!

EB-2 is usually pretty quick. There are visa numbers available right now according to the visa bulletin so you're basically looking at processing time - about a year? Doesn't make any difference if you're Canadian. Only makes a difference if you're Chinese or Indian. (USCIS doesn't take into account the fact you are now a Canadian citizen if you hold Chinese or Indian citizenship).

I've heard that the processing time can be a bit quicker for Canadians, and also for anyone who has had their OPT through SEVIS. Can anyone verify that? Thanks!
